Oxidation of a primary alcohol with PCC (pyridinium chlorochromate) gives:
Solution
PCC oxidises 1° alcohol to aldehyde (stops at aldehyde) and 2° alcohol to ketone. Unlike KMnO₄, it doesn't over-oxidise to carboxylic acid.
